International Airport Sandro Pertini
The international Airport Turin Caselle is situated in the area of the towns Caselle Torinese and San Francesco al Campo; it lies in the North of Turin and it's supplied with a highway connection which branches off from the ring road and from the railway line Turin-Cirié-Lanzo.
The official opening of the installation was in 1953 but through the years underwent several changes and re-establishments, enlargements and renewals between which the most famous ones both concern the arrive of two important sport events. The first was in 1989 to prepare the airport for the World Cup Soccer which was housed in 1990 just in our country: Italia '90. By the way, this intervention ended only five years later in 1994 with the fall of the old control tower and the opening of a new air terminal endowed with a finger for access to the planes and a large multi-level car park.
The other second important intervention was in 2005, on the occasion of the Olympic Winter Games for Torino 2006.
On this occasion the financing was remarkable; about 90 millions euros, a part of which was self-funded by SAGAT, the company which runs Turin's Airport.
Such a ponderous investment allowed an appropriate realization of the interventions dedicated to the improvement of the buildings of the entire Airport area, which is subject to an increasingly huge traffic.
The Airport was enlarged and endowed with further fingers to manage a more intense air traffic. Moreover the air terminal was built for the general aviation and enlargements of the airport buildings. The new Airport is a building in step with the times, which offers the passengers and the airline companies customers, technology and innovative infrastructures, guaranteed high-level comforts and assistance to over five millions of passengers every year.
